The Way Up Is Down
The Stories of Jesus Along the Road to the Cross
In Luke 9:51, we are told that Jesus "set His face upon Jerusalem"--in other words, Jesus looked directly at the cross where He would endure the wrath of God for our sin, and He began marching toward it. This semester in our Large Group meetings we will follow Jesus as he marches along that road toward Jerusalem, and we'll specifically look at the encounters He had along the way. Many people asked Jesus questions as he journeyed toward his death, like: "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?", or "How are we supposed to pray?", and Jesus often answered with stories (or parables) that revealed deep truths about the hearts of those asking questions, while pointing us towards the reason he is traveling down this road at all. Many say that Jesus ushered in an “upside down” kingdom, and it is true. We are not quick to accept grace and charity because we would rather be our own saviors. Along this road, Jesus teaches us that “the way up is down”--the path to security, acceptance and forgiveness starts with us traveling down that road to see ourselves for who we really are. Come join us as we look at the stories of Jesus and be prepared to have them open up your heart and reveal what is inside, leaving us all longing for the good news His death and resurrection brings. We meet on Thursday nights at 7pm in Ramsay Parlor (beginning 8/27/09).Fall Conference 2009
